In 1989, I found myself in a small Cafe in Del Mar, California, having lunch with my dear friend Jan Tober. At the time I was distressed and reviewing the direction my life was taking. Working at a job that was going nowhere, feeling depressed and lost, I asked Jan what I could do to pull myself out of this rut. I needed a change, and at that point in my life I was willing to try anything. Jan recommended I give my intent to Spirit by reciting an affirmation each night before going to sleep. She went on to tell me about how I could enlist the help of my Spirit Guides to show me my path and guide me in the direction of a new career. At first I was skeptical about what she was telling me, but having nothing to lose, I decided to give it a try.

Each night before retiring to bed, I would repeat my affirmation, "Please Spirit Guides, show me what my true career." I would repeat this mantra between 10 and 12 times a night. However, after 4 months and no sign of change, I became discouraged and quit reciting the affirmation. About a month after I had stopped my mantra, I encountered the first of many messages from Spirit that would change my life forever.

It all started in a dream. One night I saw white hieroglyphic images streaming down in front of my eyes and into my brain from outside a dark sky. As I observed each hieroglyph, I was jolted awake by the vividness and clarity of each image. As a songwriter, I understood the creative process and knew it was essential to write this down immediately. An idea that comes to you in the middle of the night is a gift, and I've learned that if you delay in capturing the essence of the dream, by morning you run the risk of only partially remembering, or worse, not remembering at all. Without hesitation I leaped from my bed, found a pad and pencil and proceeded to jot down 20 of the images that came to me that night.

Awakening the next morning, I was excited and felt a new zest for life. About 4 days later, I found myself drawn into a local art supply store, where I purchased the black paper and white ink pens I needed to recreate the images I had scribbled on my note pad. Consumed with passion and determined to recreate them, I began the process of duplicating each image as I remembered it that night.

It took an additional month and another 30 images before it hit me; this was the start of my new career. In the process of working on one of the paintings, I heard the voice of Spirit very clearly asking me to follow my heart and become an artist. I was shocked and immediately ran to the phone to call Jan, to share with her my discovery. The affirmation worked after all. It wasn't until I detached from it, and stopped asking with my Human mind, that Spirit was able to open my heart and pave the way to my new career.

12 years later, I am selling my art to decorators and designers. To date I've sold over 136 pieces and have a contract with Scott Penza, at Great Press Public Relations where I provide them with pieces of my work for greeting cards, giftwrap companies, major hotel chains, and textile companies. Who would have ever thought on that dismal day in Del Mar, having lunch with a dear friend, would have changed my life forever? I am grateful for my friendship with Jan and my Spirit Guides, they have given me a gift that will be with me forever.
